Meet Dan
Hi! Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Dan Kirchner and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.
I moved to this area in 1999 and at the risk of sounding a bit dramatic, I think it is one of the best places on earth! Let me elaborate. In 2005, I sold my house and downsized to a backpack (not a easy task) and travelled the world for three years. I have visited many beautiful and intriguing places – but guess what? I returned home, back to this area, to Port Moody!
Travel has continued to be an important part of my life and an amazing education. I feel extremely fortunate to have been in a position to learn and experience so much of what our world and its people have to offer.
I lived up the hill in Anmore for a few years and served as a member and then as Chair of the Advisory Planning Commission. I worked with Council to help shape and define the community by reviewing the Zoning Bylaw and the Official Community Plan. I enjoyed the opportunity to work collaboratively with the goal of improving my community.
My background is Electrical Engineering. I worked in high tech for 10 years, most recently having worked at PMC Sierra. I have a technical and analytical mind with a focus and attention to detail.
After my travels I transitioned back into the arts. Prior to engineering, I taught music. I have dedicated the last few years towards establishing my photography business, which incorporates lifestyle, travel, family, commercial, corporate, model, fashion, and real-estate. I am well acquainted with the obstacles and joys of building and maintaining a small business. I thoroughly enjoy all aspects and challenges the realm of photography offers. I live in the City of the Arts and would like to see further growth and promotion of this identity. Port Moody has the potential to really be known as the City of the Arts.
I am an outdoor enthusiast. This area is a true gem and offers extensive recreational opportunities for everyone; parks, beaches, ocean, lakes nearby, walking trails and biking trails.
Year round I wake up at 5am, two to three times a week to hike, bike, swim, or kayak (or sometimes all four), rain or shine. I find it exhilarating to fit in a two hour adventure in the outdoors before work. It’s a great way to start the day and it gives me a true appreciation for where I live. If anyone wants to join me, I would be thrilled to have you along! Send me a message! Last year I took a video clip of a typical morning adventure, check it out here.
I am approachable. I am down to earth. I love to listen. I enjoy connecting with people and learning from my interactions. I love to engage in conversation about many things; not just politics or the issues we are facing, but also life experiences, cultural roots, travel, aspirations, ideas and beliefs, to name just a few. There is so much to talk about! Let's have a conversation. Let me hear what you have to say so I can best represent you.
I would love to be your voice on Council.
Kirchner, Dan
